Meet the Artists!

Join us for an Artist Meet & Greet at USGS on May 27 at 11am. See "Waterscapes and Water Escapes" and every incarnation of water you can imagine! 

The address is 12201 Sunrise Valley Drive, Reston. Head toward the Visitor's Entrance when parking, which is almost immediately to the left after you enter the complex. The Art Hall is just after security, up about 15' and to the left.

Use the directions here to locate the facility and proper Visitor's Center entrance.

PSV at CACGA May through July 2014

The Pastel Society of Virginia will have an exhibit "Seen in Virginia" at the Cultural Arts Center of Glen Allen in the Gumenick Family and Slant Wall Galleries. Judge Colin Ferguson will award cash prizes in this members only exhibit. The exhibit will be installed May 15 through July 13, with the opening reception on May 18 from 2-4pm. It is being managed by the society's Central Virginia chapter.

As a landscape and plein air artist, Virginia is one of my very favorite topics!

In addition to "Poppies on Black" as seen on the postcard (note: which received an Honorable Mention!), "Vision in Blue" and "Great Falls Toward River Bend" are of my pieces available in the show.

Laurel Hill Plein Air Paint Out

Join this Workhouse annual fundraiser in Lorton and attempt to purchase at auction the original art created that morning by Workhouse Arts Center artists!

PSV at USGS, Reston

The Pastel Society of Virginia is thrilled to install an exhibit of nearly 70 pieces by a dozen artists at the USGS in Reston. "Waterscapes and Water Escapes" features artwork from pastelists residing all over the Commonwealth, from Tidewater to Central to Shenandoah to Northern Virginia and depicts water in every form. The USGS gallery space is open weekdays to the public, available for view from May 3-May 31.

Look for my depiction of mist in "Morning Drive,"

clouds in a coastal sky in "Beach Cottages at Sunset, Cape May,"

and a reservoir lake in "Fountainhead."

Occoquan Bridge

Yesterday's plein air paint out at the Workhouse Arts Center was sponsored by my co-op there, the Associate Artists, and we exhibit in Building W-9. The event was part of SpringFest Fairfax and eligible painting locations were the Workhouse, the nearby Cross County Trail, and Occoquan Regional Park.

This plein air piece was created on location at Occoquan Regional.

Clarke County Historical Society's Art at the Mill

Art at the Mill at Millwood Virginia ends on May 11. I have several pastel paintings available for purchase, to include Hold Out, 8x10 on Wallis Belgian Mist paper.

Pastel Society of Virginia Events and Deadlines

It is a busy season for the Pastel Society of Virginia. Happy Spring!

First, we have an reception on March 30 at Goodwin House:





Then we have an artists' entry deadline for a judged exhibit on April 12:


This opening reception is May 18 from 2-4pm at the Gumenick Family Gallery at the Cultural Arts Center of Glen Allen, 2880 Mountain Road, 23060. Awards will be presented at 3pm.



And, finally, we have another artists' entry deadline at USGS shortly after the previous one, April 21:




Our next exhibit after these will be in September and will feature small works at "For Art's Sake" at Gayton Crossing on Gaskins Road in Richmond.

What's up at "Safe Passage" at The Arts Club of Washington?

My exhibit "Safe Passage" remains for view at the Arts Club of Washington until March 2. It's is so much fun and such an honor to have an exhibit featuring architecture in a location with such beautiful, historic architecture. Come see! 

Cassino, once not a "Safe Passage"

Cassino, Italy might look like a tranquil "Safe Passage," but during WWII, Cassino was the location of intense aerial bombing raids and high German and Allied casualty rates. Over time, it and its namesake, Abbey Montecassino, rebounded into the picturesque passage painted here.
