Pastel Society of Virginia

Note: This page offers highlights of the Pastel Society of Virginia, which I founded in March, 2011. By the end of 2016, it competed with my time, along with work and graduate school, so I have been inactive since December, 2016.

This page is a summary of the events that have been or will be offered by the Pastel Society of Virginia since 2011. Please also visit the PSV website at www.pastelsocietyofva.com/ . Our Facebook page www.facebook.com/PastelSocietyOfVA is up to date with events as well as samples of members' and other beautiful pastel artwork. "Like" us there for the latest news.

The PSV membership form is available at www.tinyurl.com/psvmembership. From that form's information, contact Membership Chair, Roxanne Himmelburger, with any questions about joining and Founder/President, Bonnie Ferguson Butler, about anything else regarding the society. Because we operate and communicate through email, Bonnie would appreciate adding you to our email list of friends and members so you will receive updates a couple times a month.

We have added a reception for Alan Flattmann on November 7 at the Franconia Govermental Center. From 6:30-7:30, he will have a book signing for any artist to attend. From 7:30-8:00, there will be a preview of the upcoming workshop for the attendees. Light refreshments will be served.

At present we have two workshop slots remaining. Please look at the prospectus at tinyurl.com/psv-flattmann.

As a society, we are honored with the wealth of educational opportunities afforded us. In less than four years, we have or will soon be hosting Jean Hirons, Maggie Price, Liz Haywood-Sullivan, and Alan Flattmann, all world class pastelists.

In addition to our annual Veteran's Day weekend three day workshops in the Alexandria area, in 2015 we are offering a workshop with Richard McKinley from April 20-24, with a couple events on each end of that. Society membership is a requirement and we will not hold workshop slots for anyone to complete their membership needs, so if you want an opportunity to participate, please get your membership in now. We will try to have the registration be as fair as possible. Anticipate being notified of a Sunday in which the prospectus will be released, with no postmarks predating the following day. This will probably occur in early November. Do not contact any volunteers prior to that point, please. After you join, email me and I will put you on our mailing list.

PSV hosted Maggie Price November 10-12, 2012!

The Pastel Society of Virginia is pleased to host Maggie Price, internationally known and respected pastelist and author, on Veteran's Day weekend November 10-12, 2012 (Saturday through Monday) at the Franconia Governmental Center. The theme is developing your vacation photos into pastel paintings, whether you're a beginner or advanced. The $400 registration fee includes three days of instruction, daily boxed lunches, and 2012/2013 membership in the Pastel Society of Virginia. As part of the workshop, but separately and only for workshop participants, Maggie will judge a painting contest, awarding gift certificates for Richeson products.

See Maggie's website maggiepriceart.com for workshop registration information and direct any questions to Susan Webster at susanwebster@verizon.net or 703 533 0891. This workshop already has reached the attendance quota to be held, however, the registration deadline has been extended to October 10 to assist you in getting your payment submitted. Due to Maggie's extensive teaching schedule and limited availability, Susan Webster asks that you contact her, instead of Maggie, with all your questions and registration needs.
